Top 5 Reasons To Quit Smoking If You're Into Health & Fitness

There are many known reasons to quit smoking. Yet, people can decide whether or not to smoke. This decision sometimes unfortunately can be the worst decision ever made in some peoples lives.

Here at Bikini Bae we want young women to develop good healthy habits so they can minimize the risk of developing problems later on in life.

We wrote this article to give you the Top Five Reasons To Quit Smoking If You're Into Health & Fitness.

Reason #1

Increase in Shortness of breath and other respiratory side effects.

The Research is out there. Smoking damages your respiratory system. People who smoke are at higher risk of emphysema, chromic bronchitis, COPD and Lung Caner.

If you're into Health & Fitness then the first thing you should should drop are the cigarettes. Your body needs oxygen to survive and it needs it to maintain that workout routine you have. Try working out while holding your breath, it's impossible! I'm not saying cigarettes will completely cut your oxygen off but if you've noticed your self becoming out of breath earlier in your work out. You might want to think about as to why that is happening.

Reason #2

Lowers Your Immune system

"The immune system is the body’s way of protecting itself from infection and disease; it works to fight everything from cold and flu viruses to serious conditions such as cancer." - CDC

From a Health & Fitness point of view. A lower immune system means a higher possibility of becoming sick. For those of us who get sick often, it isn't pleasant. Most of us can't just call off of work or not go to school. Being sick isn't going to help your gym routine either!

Immune System

Reason #3

Anxiety and irritability. - Due to nicotine withdraw

  • Regular physical activity can help children and adolescents improve cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones and muscles, control weight, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions such as:

    • Heart disease.
    • Cancer.
    • Type 2 diabetes.
    • High blood pressure.
    • Osteoporosis.
    • Obesity.

Nicotine withdraw can impact your personal life as well as your social life. If you are someone who needs mental health help. Please do not be afraid to reach out to someone. Nicotine withdraw will only exacerbate your anxiety and irritability. It may seem like smoking can release some stress you might have in your life but it doesn't. In fact it brings bigger problems, that could've been prevented, down the road.

Reason #4

Lung Caner - The most common cause of death due to smoking according to the CDC

Causes of lung cancer include smoking, secondhand smoke, exposure to certain toxins, and family history.

Symptoms include cough (often with blood), chest pain, wheezing, and weight loss. These symptoms often don't appear until the cancer is advanced.

Reason #5

Yellow teeth, Tooth Decay and bad breath.

The more you smoke, the more likely you are to develop tooth discoloration.

It's embarrassing to when you have yellow teeth and bad breath. Your teeth are all you have. You should want to take care of them. We know you wouldn't want to lose them early on in life. With a little care you can keep showing your beautiful smile to the world!

Here is a list from the WHO of beneficial health changes that take place after you stop smoking.

  • Within 20 minutes, your heart rate and blood pressure drop.
  • 12 hours, the carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.
  • 2-12 weeks, your circulation improves and your lung function increases.
  • 1-9 months, coughing and shortness of breath decrease.
  • 1 year, your risk of coronary heart disease is about half that of a smoker's.
  • 5 years, your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker 5 to 15 years after quitting.
  • 10 years, your risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker and your risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreas decreases.
  • 15 years, the risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmoker's.

Quitting smoking might be difficult to do, but once you get there, you’ll be glad you did.
